Taster Lessons

Whether you choose Filmmaking or Digital Arts for year two, you should have a go at the different topics.

Animation

You will need Animate software and a Wacom tablet

Go to

Watch

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haa7n3UGyDc&t=33s

You will create a bouncing ball, the ball will need squash and stretch

You will need to draw the key frames of the ball first. If the animation is 3 seconds, at 25 frames a second, draw the first middle and last frame first. Then the inbetweens. Then check the timing and do more inbetweens until you've got a drawing at least every other frame.

Using Animate

File>New

'Standard' size (640x480), FRAME RATE 25fps > Create

Your canvas should now open. You have Layer 1 created automatically.

Double click on where it says Layer 1 and rename it Ground.

Use the straight line tool to draw a ground.

In the Timeline the first frame should now have a black dot to show it's a keyframe. It only lasts one frame - a fraction of a second. Extend it by clicking on F5 (or Insert>Timeline>Frame) to last three seconds (75 frames).

Create a new Layer (PLUS symbol in Timeline). Draw a guide line using the brush for your ball. Rename it 'guide'.

LOCK these two layers.

Create a new Layer. Call it 'ball'.

Draw frame 1 of your ball - at the start of its bounce. Draw frame 35 - the ball hits the ground. Draw frame 70 - the last frame. Consider why the ball will look like how it will. Consider gravity and how squashy your ball is.

Draw the inbetweens.

Check timing.

Draw more inbetweens.

Until you're happy.

Sounds makes things look better!

EXTENSION

Bounce... and break... a teapot!

Bounce a head... up and down... make the eyes blink when it hits the ground...
